Liz & Eddie were married this past summer in Minnetonka and held their reception at The Great Hall in St. Paul. My favorite photograph from day was in the ally outside of Cafe Lurcat. I’ve been asked by dozens of people where this photo was taken, “was it someplace is Italy or Europe?” Nope, good ol’ Minneapolis. Everyone was happy, joyous and the best part is that Liz & Eddie were surrounded by everyone in their family. That is certainly the type of photograph and emotion I hope to capture for all my clients. Liz & Eddie, you both were an absolute joy to work! A big thanks to my second photographer, Bethany, who assisted me for the day. A few of her images are included in the post. You can check out her work here.

Michelle & Johnny | Minneapolis Engagement Photographer

I had originally planned to shoot Michelle & Johnny’s Engagement Session in Chicago in September while I was down in that area shooting a Wedding. The weather did not cooperate, so we ended up rescheduling for when they were in town a few weeks later. We were blessed with a gorgeous October evening for the session, so all and all it worked out perfectly. The couple will be married next May at the Calhoun Beach Club, so we decided to head over to that area for a part of the session. Enjoy!

The dates for fall mini-sessions have been set. They’re a great way to get your holiday card photos done or just fit in a quick session if you haven’t otherwise been able to fit in a full session. Beth & Ryan | Minneapolis Engagement Photographer

If you are from Minneapolis I KNOW you have seen your co-workers, neighbors, best friends AND cousin’s photographs at the Stone Arch Bridge or St. Anthony Main. Why? This is a very popular location for engagement sessions. I still love shooting there and I personally challenge myself to put a new spin to each session in locations where I have shot prior. Before each session I work with my clients to find locations that fit their personalities and incorporate items with special meaning. For Beth & Ryan – St. Anthony Main was the location where Ryan proposed. Given that we knew it was the best spot for the session. The evening of Beth & Ryan’s session there was a major hail storm that stopped the Twin’s game just across the river. Somehow we managed to stay dry and avoid the storm (just went south of us). The ominous clouds provided a really cool lightning and I am very excited to share the photographs.

Lesley & Matt | Minneapolis Engagement Photographer – Part II

L & M’s wedding is this November at the Minneapolis Golf Club, and I am pretty sure it is going to be incredible.

Lesley & Matt | Minneapolis Engagement Photographer – Part I

My goal is to get to know each of my clients on a personal level. I highly encourage engagement sessions for several reasons. First, most couples don’t have many professional photos of themselves together- so why not? Most important the session is also an opportunity for my clients and I to connect on a personal level. Just think of it as a practice for the wedding photographs. I like to laugh (sometimes at my own jokes) and try to make you forget really why we are there in the first place. I make no promise other than to be myself, take awesome pictures and hope it allows us to build trust before the wedding day. When we hug (yes, this is pretty much mandatory) and part ways my clients know Crystal and I am no longer just the lady who is taking your wedding photographs. When talking with Leslie for the weeks leading up to the session I learned much about her, and I knew without a doubt that she is drawn to editorial style photographs, reading wedding blogs & also loves dramatic black and white images. I am very excited to share some favorites from the session, and really – who doesn’t love a cute couple with balloons.

Business Hours & Studio Updates

Happy Spring Everyone! The snow has melted(mostly) and warm weather is just around the corner. I am incredibly excited for the rest of 2011 as it will only build upon the great year and clients that we have had thus far. I have come to realize that busy season is just around the corner. To better manage my workload and ensure I continue to deliver 110% to each and every one of my clients there will be some changes in portrait session availability. Also, there will be a new face with the Crystal Rose Photography team, I will soon introduce Sarah who I have hired as my awesome summer Intern.

Portrait Session sessions are fully booked for April and May and we are accepting maternity, newborn, kids, families and High School Senior clients for the months of June – August. Portrait Sessions will be exclusively offered Monday – Thursday evenings after 5:30, Friday & Saturdays are typically reserved for Weddings and sessions will not be available on Sunday. If you’d like a certain day of the week or specific date, it is best to contact us as early as possible as we often will book up 4-6 weeks in advance.

Also, I have been asked when I will offer mini sessions again. I opted not to offer Spring Minis this year, but I will announce an early October date later this summer, which I can tell you without a doubt will be a Sunday. Last year our mini sessions fell on a day where it was 75 degrees and sunny, so I hope 2011 brings us the same beautiful weather. Don’t forget that we have started to accept 2012 Wedding Clients and would love to hear from you or recently engaged family or friends. No post is complete without a picture, so please take a minute to admire sweet baby Oliver. Don’t you just want to squeeze those darling cheeks?
